Willan Group founded by Robert William Willan. The family interest in property building goes back to the late 1880’s.
Our Story
The Building Product Design story goes back to the 1930s when the Willan Group was officially formed in Sale, Greater Manchester. Here is a timeline showing how we have grown as a specialist building products manufacturer since that time.
1980's
Willan Building Services created and the brand names Glidevale and Passivent introduced to promote and sell natural ventilation products and systems.
1996
Acquisition of Kingfisher Louvre Systems Ltd, a manufacturer of aluminium weather louvres and solar shading systems.
1996
Acquisition of Z Led (dpc) Ltd a manufacturer of cavity Trays and Metrobuild products which manufactured barrel vault rooflights.
1999
Protect roofing and construction membrane range launched.
2000
Following the above acquisitions a new company encompassing all of the above brands was created called Building Product Design Limited.
2006
Acquisition of Dependable Packs including the manufacturing factory in Merthyr Tydfil.
2012
Richmond GMbh is set up to distribute products throughout Europe.
2019
The business was acquired by Wienerberger Ltd, the UK’s leading provider of wall, roof and landscaping innovations.
2020
Glidevale and Protect Membranes brands brought together to create Glidevale Protect, a specialist building products business specialising in roofing and construction.
