APRIL 09 - BPD NETS INTERNATIONAL AWARD

Care of staff from shopfloor to boardroom has been recognised at a Nottinghamshire
manufacturing facility with the attainment of an international award.
The British Safety Council has bestowed its International Safety Award on
Building Product Design, for its comprehensive health and safety policies at
its Pinxton site, which manufactures building products for the Glidevale, Passivent,
Z-Led and Kingfisher brands. All are leaders in their respective fields of
roofing, ventilation, damp-proofing and architectural louvres, supplying materials
for use in new build and refurbishment projects from domestic housing to commercial
buildings, schools and hospitals.BPD also provides manufacturing, paint spray
and general assembly services for several third party organisations from the
Pinxton site.
The Award is the successful result of rigorous assessment by the BSC, one
of the world’s leading health & safety training, advisory and audit
bodies, involving BPD’s policies, targeted plans across all operating
levels, significant advances in health and safety over the past year, and promotion
of a positive safety culture: BPD has seen its statistics for health and safety
incidents more than halve in the past three years as a result of its improved
H&S culture.
Brian Nimick, chief executive of the British Safety Council observed, “For
more than 50 years BSC has led the way in promoting health, safety and environmental
best practice in society. Through achieving an International Safety Award,
Building Product Design is helping make our vision of a healthy and safe working
environment a reality.”
Added Robert Parker, BPD Production Director, “Achievement of the Award
acknowledges BPD’s commitment to putting in place a raft of policies
aimed at improving the working environment for its employees. It complements
our existing achievements of the Health & Safety Management Standard OHSAS
18001, quality management standard ISO9001, environmental standard ISO14001,
and the prestigious Investors in People accreditation.”
BPD Pinxton is the Group’ s main manufacturing site; the company services
the whole of the UK, via Pinxton, its processing site at Merthyr Tydfil, S
